14 October 2009 - We are blessed to host the Cebu International School (CIS) students in their 5 day youth camp, which included an outreach to children who were part of the barangay feeding program of Brgy. Puypuy. Puypuy and Masaya are the barangays that the Forest Club belongs to.
CIS students organized a morning of activities for the children of Puypuy Elementary School and Puypuy Day Care who have been identified by the Barangay Nutrition Scholar as under-nourished, and are part of the barangay feeding program. The activities included arts and crafts, music, fun games and sports to help the kids work up an appetite. The CIS students then served up a hearty meal of macaroni soup, pork apritada, rice, pancit bihon, bananas and juice. Lunch was followed by an interactive musical program with both the CIS students and Puypuy students presenting musical numbers, and the distribution of school supplies by the CIS students, such as note books, activity books, note pads, pencils, crayons, coloring pencils, etc.
The children and parents of Brgy. Puypuy who participated were all very appreciative, and were happy to make new friends with the students from CIS.
The Forest Club has supported the feeding programs in the barangays of West Bay through its involvement with the Rotary Club of West Bay. Our support has come in the form of rice donations, donations of Kalinga Powder, helping organize nutrition seminars for mothers with the help of the UP Lose Banos College of Human Ecology, and facilitating outreach linkages between some of our guests and the local community.
Brgy. Puypuy is ranked as one of the poorest barangays in the municipality of Bay, Laguna because of the general lack of employment opportunities in the area. So the help that CIS students extended to the poorest of the poor in this community is really much needed and most appreciated.
Forest Club is simply overjoyed to facilitate activities such as these. Thanks to Kapitan Junior and Kagawad Cecille for facilitating this outreach between CIS and Brgy. Puypuy.
